Entry: Conscience Friday, October 24, 2008

Conscience is a dog that does not stop us from passing
but that we cannot prevent from barking.

Nicolas de Chamfort, writer (1741-1794)

Conscience is a hypothesised ability or faculty that
distinguishes whether our actions are right or wrong.
It leads to feelings of remorse when we do things
that go against our moral values, and to feelings
of rectitude or integrity when our actions conform
to our moral values

For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature
do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves,
even though they do not have the law. They show that
the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their
conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting
thoughts accuse or even excuse them

The Bible, Roman 2:14-15
